Here they create by breaking. They make raw material, but not from ore or oil. They produce raw material from old cars, fridges, hair dryers, bread machines, TV sets etc. There are no many enterprises like this in Russia. And this one, “Petromax” company, is run by the Finns.

This is a heap of old fridges and washing machines.

“Kuusakoski” company was founded more than 100 years ago by a person with a Russian surname. The first plant recycling scrap metal appeared in 1914 in Vyborg, it used to be a Finnish territory. Later “Kuusakoski” company became one of the largest concerns recyling metal in the world. Russia has some of them: in St. Petersburg, Vyborg, Pskov, Smolensk, Petrozavodsk, Murmansk and in Lobna of the Moscow region, where we are now. It has been working here since 2003. About 40 people are employed by the company in Lobna.

These are old cars.

Different waste comes to “Petromax”. If the waste content is not known for sure, it is sorted manually. If waste is homogeneous, it is immediately sent for crushing and separation. The resulting raw is mainly sold to metallurgical companies. “Petromax” has about thirty customers in Russia.
Metals are sorted with help of magnetic separation. Here they can extract 78 types of metal. 90% of components may be useful! Plastic is also sold.

They recycle cars too. Anyone can bring his/her car for utilization. It costs 3000 rubles (100 USD). Car batteries are not recycles here, they are sent to Podolsk. All technical liquids are also collected and sent to special companies for recycling.

“Petromax” recycles 25-30 thousand tons of metal monthly.
